Privacy Policy
Semisino is a subscription research product, not an advertising business. We collect what an account and a subscription require, and nothing we could sell if we wanted to.

What we collect
Account information. Your email address, a display name, and optionally the organization you belong to. Accounts also carry an internal role (free, subscriber, admin) and an administrative notes field used to record things like which subscription an invitation came from.
Your password — which we never see. Authentication runs on Supabase Auth. Passwords are hashed there and are not readable by us or stored anywhere in our own tables.
Subscription state. Your plan, its status, the billing period dates, and the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers that link your account to your payment.
A billing event log. When Stripe tells us a subscription changed, we record the event type, the customer email it concerned, and the access decision we made. This exists so that a billing change can be audited after the fact and so that a repeated notification cannot double-apply.
Payment details — which also never reach us. Card numbers and bank details are handled entirely by Stripe. They do not pass through Semisino's servers and we cannot see them.
Aggregate usage analytics. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and referrers. It is cookieless, does not build a profile of you, and does not follow you to other sites.
Ordinary server logs. Our hosting and database providers keep standard request logs, including IP addresses, for operations and abuse prevention.
Cookies
Only the session cookies that keep you signed in. There are no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and no third-party trackers on this site — which is why you have never seen a cookie banner here. If you sign out or clear the cookies, the session ends.
Why we hold it
To sign you in, to decide what your subscription entitles you to see, to send you the transactional email an account requires (invitations, password resets, billing notices), and to keep the service working and secure. For readers in the UK and EU, that processing rests on performing our contract with you and on our legitimate interest in running and protecting the service.
Who else processes it
We use a small number of providers, each doing one job: Supabase (database and authentication, hosted in the United States, us-east-1), Vercel (hosting and the cookieless analytics), Stripe (payments), and Resend, sending over Amazon SES, for transactional email. They act on our instructions and for no other purpose.
One clarification specific to how this site is built: Semisino uses a large language model to translate and tidy Chinese-language news headlines. Only that public news text is sent — no account, subscription, or personal data is ever sent to a model provider.
What we don't do
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising — under the CCPA and CPRA or otherwise. We do not run ad networks, we do not enrich your profile from data brokers, and we do not use your reading history to target you anywhere.
How long we keep it
Account and subscription records last as long as your account does, and for a short period afterwards so that a lapsed subscription can be restored without re-entering everything. Billing event records are kept longer as an audit trail. Ask us to delete your account and we will, subject to any records we are required to retain for tax or accounting purposes.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we are using it. Email info@semisino.com and we will action it — there is no form to fill in. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.
International readers
Semisino is operated from the United States and the data described above is stored there. If you are reading from outside the US, using the site involves transferring your information to the US.
Children
This is a professional research service and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, for anything that affects how we handle existing accounts, tell subscribers by email.
